Tata Communciations joins hand with Tomizone for WiFi Internet

In its bid to offer Internet Services at affordable prices in India Tata Communications Intenet Services has tied up with Australia based Wi-Fi zone solutions provider Tomizone.  The services offered by this tie up will allow Internet subscribers to set up Wi-Fi hotspots at their premises. Presenty there are less than 1000 Wi-Fi hotspots in the country and this tie up will boost the growth of hot spots in a major way. Decreasing prices of Laptops has been significant in enhancing PC penetration and creating more demand for internet services. As on Sep’09 there are 14.63 mn Internet subscribers with 7.21 mn broadband subscribers which is 49.3% of the total internet subscriber base.. It has shown a growth rate of 4.09% in that quarter. But India is having one of the lowest broadband penetration  rate in the world. . Tomizone will offer low cost Wi-Fi Internet access through an interconnected network.
Tata Communications Internet Services COO Prateek Pashine said. “There is a need for higher penetration of Wi-Fi hotspots where laptop and Wi-Fi enabled-device users can connect to the Internet. Currently there are less than 1,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in India with Tata Indicom Wi-Fi having a share of over 50 per cent. Through this partnership, the number of such hotspots can grow manifold in a much shorter time”
