Delhi Metro Rail Corporation [DMRC] and Google India has formed joint venture through Google Transit which uses Google maps application to provide instant and comprehensive information on Delhi Metro routes, schedules and fares etc. Google’s Transit application provides navigation features on Google maps and can provide effortless information on stations, train schedules, frequency of metro trains, travel time and ticket fares and many more.

Delhi Metro’s transit service would also be available on mobile and can be accessed through Google Maps for Mobile. Commuters can check the most recent updates to make route changes on-the-go.

On the occasion, E Sreedharan, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation added “In line with Delhi Metro’s vision for a people-centred public transport system, we have launched several initiatives to help commuters better manage their travel time, transfers, and make more informed transport decisions. The collaboration with Google is another step in this direction to make it even easier for the public to plan their trips with transit information on Google Maps”.

Chennai MRTS, Kolkata Metro, Hyderabad Metro are also powered by Google transit services.

How to use Google Transit

  • Search for information to reach from place P to Q using Google Maps
  • Google maps will give result showing a map with the all possible routes and driving directions for the commuter
  • Choosing the transit option, and you will get details on Delhi metro’s schedule and nearby passing lines in that area
  • You can also see the step-by-step directions for the entire route including schedules, travel time and fares for each leg of the trip in text and on the map
  • Layer option if enabled will give a quick snapshot of the entire Metro network. By clicking the station icons one can get the train information for that station.
