Landline base down but Private Operators are adding Up
Indian Telecom sector has seen huge growth in wireless sector. The growth in Mobile sector has led to decline in wireline(Landline) subscription.Resultantly the overall subscriber base has gone down for wireline service in India. If you ask anybody about the future of landline, you get prompt reply that mobile phones have made it redundant and since all the members in a family have mobile phones so what’s the need of having a family phone. So general perception is that Wireline subscriber base is going down and all across people are surrendering wireline phones.
This fact is true if we see the overall wireline subscriber base of all operators across all circles in India and the same of BSNL and MTNL.But in Metros we are seeing the reverse trend and the same is the case with private operators wireline base.Statistics given below makes it clear that the Private operators except Shyam Telecom(Rainbow) all the private operators have increased their wireline subscriber base.At the same time it is also evident that in metros and many other circles the wireline subscriber base has gone up. Airtel has added maximum number of wireline customers from July 09 to June 10 with 2.91 lakh net addition. Airtel is followed by Tata and then Reliance communication.
1.Landline All India Subscriber Base:
2.Circle Wise Wireline Subscriber base:
Just see the net additions from Dec 09 to March 10,it is evident that in many circles wireline customer base has gone up.
Figures are in Million
