After reading some posts on Samsung releasing Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware update to GALAXY POP S5570, I decided to say goodbye to Froyo 2.2. The update is now also pushed through KIES and its safest option one should choose. However, the boys at androidadvices also provide alternative methods to welcome the Gingerbread. Before I started the update process, I took backup of my Contacts, SMS and other media files. Initially I though of using KIES for backup but i was getting “STOP Loading Contact” error. Finally, I used “Super Backup” android app for taking backup of my contacts (.vcf file) and SMS (.xml file).

After taking backup, I initiated the update process. As I was using old version of KIES, again I started facing array of problems like internet connectivity issues, broken downloads etc. But after I updated KIES to latest version 2.1.1.11124_17 which is released on 2nd Jan’2012; all the problems faded away. And finally, the update from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.6 was smoothly carried out. So the key advice here is to first update your KIES application with latest stable release and then attempt a firmware upgrade process. Rewinding the upgrade instance for you with some screenshots.
