TRAI issues tariff order for Set-top Box for DTH / Digital Cable System

The Telecom Regulator – TRAI has announced its new tariff order covering Set-Top Box being used as customer premise equipment (CPE) for DTH / Digital Cable System. As per the tariff order dated 27th May’13, the customer has to pay for security deposit and monthly rental for Set-top Box. TRAI has given two options wherein customer can either choose to get the refund of security deposit after 3 years or on surrender, or security deposit get adjusted over a period of 3 years. The detailed Set-to Box tariff is described as below.

Option A : Refund of Security Deposit after three years or on surrender of CPE with in 3 years

Option B : Security Deposit adjustable over 3 years

Digital Cable Option -1 Rs. 800 Rs. 32.93
DTH Option – 1 Rs. 500 Rs. 60.66
DTH Option – 2 Rs. 1,000 Rs. 43.33

If customer surrenders DTH / Digital Cable CPE within three years the un-adjusted portion will be refunded by the service provider. The refund calculations are as per these orders – Click here for orders.

Important Points for customers

  • No Set-top Box rental is to be paid after 3 years as it (CPE) becomes customer’ property.
  • The Set-top Box charges includes installation, activation, maintenance and repair for three years.
  • It is mandatory for a service provider to offer above Set-top Box tariff, however alternative packages can also be given to customers.
