Wireless Subscriber Base reaches 935.35 mn in Oct’14.

India’s total wireless customer base now stand at  935.35 mn as on Oct’14 with net additions of 5.14 mn new wireless subscribers. The total telecom base (wireless+wireline)  was 962.63 mn with 27.28mn wireline subscribers. The wireless tele-density in India increased from 74.55 at the end of September, 2014 to 74.89 at the end of October, 2014. Bharti Airtrel , the market leader in Indian telecom, added highest number of customers with 1.859 mn additions taking its total base to 213.4 mn. Idea Cellular garnered 1.850 mn customers in the same month while  Vodafone had 1.01 mn new customers on its network. Reliance Comm had 2.49 lakh net additions and its total wireless base including gsm and cdma stood at 110.37 mn at the end of Oct’14. State run telecom PSU BSNL registered highest net loss of customers with 1.7 mn followed by Loop Mobile (with 1.8 lakh ) which has shut down its operations in Nov’14 following its expiry of license in Mumbai.

Wireline subscriber base continues to decline with total base shrinking to 27.28mn in Oct’14 from 27.41 mn in Sep’14. With this overall teledensity of wireline services has declined from 2.20 to 2.18. BSNL’s fixed line services declined from 17.36mn to 17.22mn in Oct  while Bharti Airtel added 13568 new customers taking its total fixed line base to 33.85 lakhs.
In broadband segment subscriber base has increased from 75.73 mn in Sep’14 to 79.21 mn in Oct’14 with monthly growth rate of 4.59%.  Out of 79.21 mn 63.65mn access broadband via mobile devices while wired subscriber base stand at 15.15 mn. Top five service providers constituted 86.67% market share of total broadband subscribers at the end of October, 2014. These service providers were BSNL (19.13 million), Bharti Airtel (17.31 million), Vodafone (14.15 million), Idea Cellular Ltd (11.48 million) and Reliance Communications Group (6.58 million).
