Wireless Subscriber Base reaches 943.97 mn in Dec’14.
India’s total wireless base reached 943.97 mn with 6.92 mn new subscriber additions at the end of Dec’14. Total wireless subscriber base increased from 937.06 mn at the end of Nov’14 to 943.97 mn at the end of Dec’14 with monthly growth rate of 0.74%. The Wireless tele-density in India increased from 74.95 at the end of November, 2014 to 75.43 at the end of Dec’14. The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 964.20 mn in Nov’14 to 970.97 mn in De’14, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.70%.
In terms of number of customer acquisitions Idea Cellular topped with 2.58mn followed by market leader Bharti Airtel with 1.7mn . Vodafone garnered 1.4 mn new customers and Telewings attracted 1.2mn. State run telecom PSU BSNL reported net loss of 1.3 mn customers . As on Dec’14 total subscriber base of Bharti , Idea and Vodafone stood at 217.2mn, 150.5mn, 178.6 mn respectively. Reliance Comm subscriber base reached 106.2 mn while Tata Docomo had 66.1 mn at the end of Dec’14.
Wireline subscriber base declined from 27.14 mn at the end of Nov’14 to 27.00 mn at the end of Dec’14. Net reduction in the wireline subscriber base was 0.14 mn at the monthly decline rate of 0.53%. The overall Wireline tele-density declined from 2.17 in Nov’14 to 2.16 in Dec’14.
In broadband segment subscribers increased from 82.22 mn in Nov’14 to 85.74 mn in Dec’14 with monthly growth rate of 4.28%. Top five service providers constituted 87.24% market share of total broadband subscribers at the end of December, 2014. Bharti Airtel’s broadband subscriber base (wireless+wireline) stood at 19.19 mn while BSNL has 18.90 mn ,Vodafone 16.65 mn, Idea Cellular Ltd 12.95 mn and Reliance
Leading top five Wired Broadband Service providers were BSNL (9.98 mn), Bharti Airtel (1.41 mn), MTNL (1.13 mn), Atria Convergence Technologies (0.61 mn) and YOUBroadband (0.42 mn) while the top five Wireless Broadband Service providers were Bharti Airtel (17.78 mn), Vodafone (16.64 mn), Idea Cellular (12.95 mn), BSNL (8.92 mn) and Reliance Communications Group (7.00 mn).
