Telecom Subscriber Base crosses 101.47 cr in Aug’15

India’s wireless telecom subscriptions witnessed net additions of more than 5.48 mn in the month of Aug’15 taking total wireless base to 988.69 mn. Total telecom base (wireline+wireless) rose to 1014.70 mn in Aug ’15 from 1009.31 mn in Jul’15.  India’s overall teledensity now stands at 80.44 up from 80.09. Bharti Airtel , Idea Cellular and Vodafone top the chart with net additions of 1.31 mn, 1.16 mn and 1.12 mn respectively. Airtel, the  market leader in India’s telecom space, has total mobile base of 232.9 mn while Vodafone’s customers base has reached 186.5 mn as on Aug’15. State run telecom PSU BSNL’s performance in mobile space seems to be improving as it finds its place in top five operators in terms of net additions second time in a row. In July’15 it gained 4.79 lakh customers while in Aug’15 it registered more than 8.12 lakh new customers.  Reliance Communications and Sistema  witnessed net loss of 4.9 lakh and 1.8 lakh customers respectively.

In wireline segment both BSNL and MTNL continue to register negative growth although other private operators are making gradual and positive growth by focusing on enterprise segment. BSNL’s net loss in Aug stood at 1.16 lakh customers while MTNL disconnected more than 2183 landline connections. Bharti Airtel had 24880 new additions in this segment.

In broadband segment country’s total base increased from 113.32 mn in Jul’15 to 117.34 mn in Aug’15.  Wired broadband subscriptions rose from 15.84 mn to 16.00 mn while mobile broadband increased from 97.04 mn to 100.88 mn. Airtel’s total broadband base now stands at 27.90 mn , Vodafone’s at 23.20 mn and BSNL’s at 18.91 mn at the end of Aug’15. In wireline broadband BSNL  has 9.92 mn customers , Airtel 1.54 mn and MTNL 1.13 mn.
