Reliance Jio adds 1.62 cr customers in Nov’16. India’s total mobile base crosses 109.9 cr.
Reliance Jio garnered more than 16.2 mn new consumers in the month of Nov’16 to take its total base to 51.8 mn. Overall net additions of 21 mn customers was made by all mobile operators in this month to take wireless subscriber base to 1099.5 mn with monthly growth rate of 1.96% . The total telecom base which includes wireless as well as wireline subscribers enhanced from 1102.94 mn in Oct’16 to 1123.96 mn in Nov’16 thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 1.91%. India’s teledensity increased from 86.25 in Oct’16 to 87.81 in Nov’16. Idea Cellular, which is in talks with India’s second largest operator Vodafone for merger possibilities, made net additions of 2.5 mn taking its total base to 187.36 mn while Vodafone registered 8.9 lakh customers as it customer count stand at 202.7 mn . Bharti Airtel , the leader in Indian telecom space, had net additions of 1 mn and now boasts of having a mobile base of 263.3 mn customers on its network. State telecom PSU BSNL,which has narrowed its loss to Rs 4890 cr in Apr-Dec period, was able make to get 8.3 lakh net additions and has a total wireless subscriber base of 95.7 mn at the end of Nov’16.
In wireline segment subscriber base declined from 24.52 mn in Oct’16 to 24.44 mn in Nov’;16. BSNL reported to net loss of 86964 wireline connections in Nov’16 with total base declining to 13.7 mn. Airtel had 14720 net additions as it total wireline base touched 3.8 mn.
Broadband segment witnessed decline in its numbers as total base came down to 218.26 mn in Nov from 218. 42 mn in Oct’16. While wireline broadband increased from 17.93 mn to 18.06 mn wireless broadband declined from 199.90 mn to 199.61 mn in this month. Reliance Jio has been able to take the top spot in broadband segment in a very short span owing to 4G services and free offers. It has 52.23 mn subscribers at the end of Nov’16 while Airtel has second position with 43.93 mn customers. Vodafone has 34.88 mn and Idea Cellular 28.40 mn broadband customers.
