Indian teledensity has reached 78.71 at the end of April 2012 as per latest data released by TRAI. Total subscriber base has crossed 952.91mn with wireless base reaching to 921.02 mn Total Wireless subscriber base increased from 919.17 Million in March 2012 to 921.02 Million at the end of April 2012, registering a growth of 0.20%. The share of Urban Subscriber has decreased from 64.83 % to 64.54% where as share of Rural Subscribers has increased from 35.17% to 35.46%. The overall wireless Tele density in India reaches 76.07.
Requests for mobile number portability rose from 41.88mn in March to 45.89mn in April 2012 with an increase of 9.5%. Total number of new MNP requests in the month of April stood at 40 lakh. In MNP Zone-I (Northern & Western India) maximum number of requests have been received in Gujarat (4.23 million) followed by Rajasthan (4.10 million) whereas in MNP Zone-II (Southern & Eastern) maximum number of requests have been received in Karnataka (5.11 million) followed by Andhra Pradesh Service area (4.44 million).
