India’s leading mobile service provider, Bharti Airtel, the company which has operations in 20 countries across South Asia and Africa has become world’s fourth largest mobile operator in terms of number of subscribers. As per the report named as ‘Scoreboard’ released by Wireless Inteligence , Bharti Airtel has moved up from its earlier fifth rank to fourth rank worldwide recording 13 percent year -on- year increase in number of subscribers. The company now has 250.04 million subscribers.
After launching 4G LTE services in Bengaluru & Kolkatta, Airtel has launched its 4G services in Pune. With this, Airtel customers in Pune will now have access to 4G LTE technology that can theoretically give download speed of upto 100 Mbps. Airtel also announced the availability and free trial offer of its Airtel Broadband TV and Games On-Demand. Currently the 4G service has been launched for postpaid customers only and will soon be made available for prepaid customers as well.
Airtel 4G will empower customers with superfast access to data for High Definition (HD) video streaming, multiple chatting, instant uploading of photos, rich content and much more. Bharti Airtel also has plans of rolling out India’s first multi-mode LTE TDD smartphone in India alongwith partners Qualcomm and Huawei – thus making voice telephony a reality for 4G users in India in the near future.

Market leader Bharti Airtel has overtaken Vodafone to become the second best telecom operator after Idea Cellular in the field of Mobile Number Portability. Vodafone has been a consistent performer in MNP space since the beginning but Airtel has witnessed a lot of ups and downs. Airtel has been able to bounce back with strong ‘Port In’ numbers this year and in the month of August Airtel has become best telecom operator in MNP with net gain 34.5 lakh customers while Idea continues to be a the leader of the pack with 36 lakh. Vodafone’s net gain has dropped from 28.35 lakh customers in July’12 to 26.8 lakh in Aug’12. Idea Cellular, Airtel and Vodafone are the only three operators having more ‘Port In’ of customers than ‘Port Out’s’ and other 12 operators are consistently losing customers to these three operators.
