TRAI has been receiving numerous complaints in the area of Mobile Number Portability and it has brought about new guidelines time to time and now it has decided to levy financial penalties to telecom operators for not implementing MNP rules and guidelines properly.
The big three of the mobile industry Idea Cellular, Vodafone and Airtel, based on their performance in MNP space, are the only net gainers in mobile industry and boasts of combined net gain of more than 8.7 mn customers till July’12
Idea Cellular continues to be front runner on MNP charts as the company’s net MNP gains crossed 31.73 lakh customers till 30th June 12

If you are relocating from one state to another in India , the one thing you won’t have to bother much about is getting new mobile connection, given you have Vodafone postpaid connection.
Vodafone has today launched relocation service for its postpaid mobile customers by which customers relocating from one circle to another will get new number without any need to make visits to customer care centre. All a customer need to do is make a request for the same at her current location. Once the request is placed in CRM system executives at new location will collect the documents and allocate new number.
In this directive TRAI reiterated that there is no such provision in MNP regulation which allows telecom operators to commit such action. Promptly reacting on the issue, TRAI has directed all telecom operators not to entertain any port cancellation requests.
Bharti Airtel , the market leader in Indian telecom Industry , is gradually losing its appeal among its customers as depicted by declining trend of its net gain of customers in recent data of Mobile Number Portability. While companies like Idea Cellular and Vodafone are taking great strides month on month by winning over mobile customers of other operators Airtel is gradually losing its ground in MNP.
