    TRAI to penalise telecom operators for improper MNP delays & rejections

    Telecom regulator TRAI is getting more stringent in getting its directions implemented more diligently and now it is gradually defining financial penalties for not following its regulations in its true spirit. TRAI has been receiving numerous complaints in the area of Mobile Number Portability and it has brought about new guidelines time to time and now it has decided to levy financial penalties to telecom operators for not implementing MNP rules and guidelines properly.

    MNP requests reach 45.89mn in April’12

    Requests for mobile number portability rose from 41.88mn in March to 45.89mn in April 2012 with an increase of 9.5%. Total number of new MNP requests in the month of April stood at 40 lakh. In MNP Zone-I (Northern & Western India) maximum number of requests have been received in Gujarat (4.23 million) followed by Rajasthan (4.10 million) whereas in MNP Zone-II (Southern & Eastern) maximum number of requests have been received in Karnataka (5.11 million) followed by Andhra Pradesh Service area (4.44 million).

    Vodafone has today launched relocation service for its postpaid mobile customers by which customers relocating from one circle to another will get new number without any need to make visits to customer care centre. All a customer need to do is make a request for the same at her current location. Once the request is placed in CRM system executives at new location will collect the documents and allocate new number.

While companies like Idea Cellular and Vodafone are taking great strides month on month by winning over mobile customers of other operators Airtel is gradually losing its ground in MNP.
